MDC CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS, ROCK ‘N ROLL STYLE

Posted: December 2011, MDC Corporate Communications

Makati Development Corporation (MDC) recently held its Corporate Christmas Party at the Hard Rock Café Makati last Dec. 9, 2011.

Employees clad in their black leather jackets, spiked-up hair-do, Ray-Ban shades and tight-fit pants came to party as this year’s theme was none other than Rock ‘N Roll. Hosting the party was the beautiful Mocha Uson, leading lady of the popular girl group – The Mocha Girls, and MDC’s own Richard Luciano, the ever-so confident Project Manager of The Lerato.

The event kicked-off with a Holy Mass, a celebration of thanksgiving for the past year filled with blessings for the company. The programme proper began with a huge performance from the MDC Mancom. President Dante M. Abando led the group and gyrated to the sounds of the Hagibis classic, “Katawan”. The crowd went wild as they danced in their black muscle shirts, accentuated by their MDC safety vests and helmets – what an awesome way to promote MDC’s construction safety policies!

Following their performance was the launching of Rebirth, the brand new MDC Company Video – a testament to MDC’s three-decade legacy of excellence in the construction industry, and a preview into the company’s future as a full-scale construction company offering Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Construction Management services to 100% of AyalaLand’s projects and its external clientele as well.

The main event of the night was the Group Competition – wherein the five business groups (Construction Operations Group 1, Construction Operations Group 2, Construction Operations Support Group, Commercial Group, and Corporate Resources & Finance Group) battled it out for the title of Rock ‘N Roll Champions. The performances were great, and it became a true tribute to Rock, but in the end, the Corporate Resources and Finance Group took the crown with their funny and exciting OPM Rock Medley – “Rock-A-Serye” performance.

MDC President Dan Abando gave a message to the MDC Family, thanking them for the hard work and dedication of its employees which in turn made MDC the number one Philippine construction company this year (3rd Quarter) in terms of revenue.

The party capped-off with a grand performance from the Mocha Girls, sizzling the crowd and driving them onto the dance floor with their party-rock beats.

“This year’s party definitely rocked and it proved that MDC people are not only technical experts, but are musically inclined as well!”, said Burt, an engineer.

MDC PIONEERS THE USE OF BUCKLING RESTRAINED BRACES IN THE PHILIPPINES

Posted: November 2011, MDC Corporate Communications

Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) are one of the latest seismic resistance technologies today which are being used in various construction sites around the world. They are composed of a slender steel core which is supported by concrete casing which prevents buckling under axial compression during a seismic event. The core and the casing are decoupled in order to prevent interaction between them. This makes the vertical buildings more sturdy and earthquake resistant.

Last November, Makati Development Corporation (MDC) reached another milestone as it became the first construction company in the Philippines to use BRBs. The braces were installed at the Park Terraces Project, a three tower residential and commercial development of Ayala Land Premier.

Leading the way during the BRB installation were Mr. Mike Milaor, Project Manager of Park Terraces Project, Dr. Naveed Anwar, Structural Peer Review Consultant – Asian Institute of Technology, Mr. Tom Meyer, Structural Peer Review Consultant – Magnusson Klemencic Associates, Mr. Boy Sy, Structural Engineer on Record – Sy2, and Mr. Steve Powell and Mr. Argan Johnson of Star Seismic.

As the best way to prevent a natural disaster is to prepare for it, MDC is at the helm of integrating disaster prevention technologies such as the BRB into its construction projects – ensuring that its developments are safe and secure.
